Benjarong Thai Cuisine – A Thai Select certified Authentic Thai Restaurant :
“Pad Thai”, “Red Curry”, “Green Curry”, “Tom Yum Soup”…Yummmm! What are your favorite Thai dishes? There’s so much more exciting Thai food in Vancouver beyond these popular dishes ready for you to savor!
If you’ve tried Thai food before, you’ve probably noticed how most Thai dishes have a complex mixture of bold & adventurous flavors with a kick of spices. It’s actually quite difficult to create Thai food with the perfect taste as it requires careful balancing of flavors and spices.
We were warmly welcomed by the owner Ms. P with a big smile. As we sat down and chat, we were quickly drawn in by her passion for Thai food, as she was telling us how dishes from different region of Thailand tell the story of the different communities’ local culture & history. We had a great time getting to know her.
Things hasn’t been easy though. Adjusting to new life in Canada, taking care of her family, and managing her businesses…when we found out that not only is she running the restaurant Benjarong Thai Cuisine, but also running an Asian grocery market in Vancouver AND a coffee shop in Thailand! We were touched by her humble and hardworking personality.
One of the special things about Benjarong Thai Cuisine is that they source their daily supply of fresh ingredients straight from her own grocery supplier, no wonder they can offer dishes at such reasonable prices! We were for sure excited to take our first bite!
Kick started the meal with Coconut Prawn – Deep fried prawn wrapped with shredded coconut, topped with house special chili sauce. The outer layer of shredded coconut was crisp and chewy, complemented the crunchy prawn well, while the slight spicy sauce was enhanced by the sweet & sour dip. Yummy!
Then came the small mountain on a plate – the Classic Thai Pineapple Fried Rice (Khao Pad Sapparot)! Our taste buds experienced a burst of flavors – slight spiciness from the Thai curry powder, adding the sweetness and sourness from the pineapple, mixed with the sweetness from the raisins, on top of the savory flavor from the scrambled eggs. Such an appetizing comfort food.
Don’t forget to save room for Dessert Mango Sticky Rice (Khao Niaow Ma Muang). This simple dish really caught us by surprise! A bite of the silky, juicy, and sweet mango (they’re in season right now btw!), paired with a spoonful sweet coconut black sticky rice, Wow! It was a perfect combo of chewy & sticky, silky & juicy textures. Very delish & addictive! No wonder it’s so popular.
